ORDER OF SUPREME COURT

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has rejected the appeal of Essel Group, in which the Essel Group had demanded more time for depositing the forest clearance penalty of 1800 crores.

In fact, Essel Group has to pay Rs 1800 crore as forest clearance till December 31, if he does not do it, he will not be able to do mining work in Odisha.
Essel Group had sought to increase the deadline for January 2, 2018, but the Supreme Court rejected the application. Earlier, the Supreme Court had said in its verdict that companies in Odisha are doing mining without any environment and forest clearance. In such a case the companies will have to pay the relevant department by December 31 or they can not do the mining work.
Essel Group fined 1000 crores for environmental clearance, but the company was seeking time till January 2, 2018 to pay fine of Rs 1800 crores for forest clearance.
